About Us - A history of plagiarism detection
iThenticate is a natural extension of iParadigms’ growing array of content verification and plagiarism detection services. Ten years ago, a group of researchers, teachers, mathematicians and computer programmers collaborated to introduce the world’s first technology designed to address the growing prevalence of plagiarism in academics. The technology, initially called plagiarism.org, quickly found favor among educators looking for an effective method of plagiarism prevention, as well as an efficient approach to content verification.
Plagiarism.org eventually spawned Turnitin, a more comprehensive technology that transcended originality checking and focused on enhancing the complete writing cycle. Today, Turnitin is used in more than 9,500 academic institutions and 30 languages across the globe.
The growing popularity of Turnitin has in the last half-decade prompted inquiries from organizations outside of, or on the periphery of the academic arena. It was immediately clear that any organization that created content for publication, or solicited content from third-party authors would benefit from Turnitin’s technology.
Enter iThenticate.com. Introduced in 2003, iThenticate immediately garnered interest from many industries including publishers, research facilities, government agencies, financial institutions, and legal firms that were looking for a reliable plagiarism checker and IP protection solution.
In April 2008, iParadigms launched an enhanced version of iThenticate. Today, we continue to work hand-in-hand with a growing (and vocal) user base to continue to improve service and accommodate the needs of the information industry. Check back often to keep apprised of latest developments.
